Aside from the incredible breadth of work that’s undertaken within the KDE umbrella, the item that stuck out the most to me was the fact that Supporting Members and donations provide more than twice as much income to KDE as patrons/corporate sponsors.

It’s easy to lose sight of just how much KDE relies on and is driven by individuals and small groups pooling their resources together to enable great things to be done - and how much of that happens with a budget that wouldn’t even pay for the total compensation of a single VP of Something-Or-Other at a mega-corp focused on profits.

A great and important read - thanks very much for putting together and sharing.

It is something many have a hard time grasping: there is no “them” (“consumers of KDE products”) and “us” (“KDE product providers”) – or vice versa. KDE is very literally a FLOSS project of the people, by the people, for the people, where, if it is to survive, everybody must intervene, contribute and support if we are then going to reap its benefits.

There is no mega-corp patronage or government plan that is going to help us, at least not to the degree that would guarantee KDE’s continuity.
