Keyboard shortcut for annotation tools

It would be a great productivity boost to be able to switch between annotation tools with keyboard shortcuts. For example:
R - Rectangle
E - Ellipse
L - Line
TAB or C - Crop
etc.

It would also be desirable to be able to edit these shortcuts in the Preferences

There was an MR for this, but it seems the author ran out of time to work on it and forgot about it. Maybe I should pick it up.
