If I’m not mistaken, Kde now owns Kleopatra. I’m curious about which package offers the most secure version of Kleopatra or kgpg? From what I’ve been able to read, Flatpaks in general do not work good with the sandboxing, or user namespaces, therefore being less secure. I’ve also noticed that Kgpg and Kleopatra (Ubuntu) seem to be pretty behind on updates, so I’m just not sure what the better choice would be to install on my Kubuntu 24.04 computer.
That is entirely incorrect. Flatpaks (and snaps) are the only packaging formats that are sandboxed at all.
Whether you have a better experience with the flatpak or the ubuntu package depends on what exactly you need, I’d recommend just trying both and sticking with what works for you.
KGpg isn’t actively maintained and lacks many of the features kleopatra has
According to their website, they just had a release come out on 6/5/25
It’s the automatic gear release Around 200 components are getting updates at the same time, but it’s always mostly translations update and no bug fixes nor new features.
But if kgpg works for you, feel free to continue using it
Would you mind pointing me in a direction that lets me know it is not being actively maintained?
It’s very misleading for a user to click on “project website” link in Discover with sends you to KGpg - KDE Applications and it shows recent release after release while at the same time says nothing at all about it not being maintained anymore.
I couldn’t find a link anywhere in Discover or the projects website that provides that information.
