Kmail - change background of received emails to something dark like in Thunderbird

Hello,

the title says is all, I think.

I really start liking Kmail. But the bright background (of received emails) in contrast to the dark theme is something I can’t get used to. Is it possible to change it like in Thunderbird? See my picture.

Just curious, it looks like that email had some sort of background image/pattern downloaded based on its HTML styling - in the Thunderbird window I see the message at the top that it is configured to block external content. Is your KMail configured to allow external content? (Do you observe the same issue in a plain text email, for example?)

I store my mails encrypypted on serverside. The last Thunderbird update makes it impossible to load remote content when emails are stored and encrypted like that. That’s why Thunderbird is quite useless for me at the moment.

My Kmail is configured to load external content, yes. It seems like it’s only affecting some, not all html mails. Plain text mails are shown with a dark blue background. I’d prefer the KDE Dark Breeze design. But it’s ok.

Without going through example emails individually, I’d guess that some of those HTML messages include explicit colors or images for the backgrounds, and some don’t - the former wouldn’t obey your local dark mode, the latter should.

Interesting that it’s blue-tinted for you - does that change if you manually set the color scheme in KMail from the Settings menu?

In KMail configuration, check Appearance → Colors. There’s checkbox for “Do not change color from original HTML mail”

Dunno if that alone will fix it, but you can also enable custom colors on that page.

When I set color scheme from breeze dark to bright some background colors of html mails change.

In Thunderbird under settings → general → colors I can change the background color to, for example, black and every email gets a black background. I think it’s just not possible in Kmail right now.

Custom colors don’t help me much. Can’t change background color there.
