Sadly I need to use multiple Gmail-Accounts. Wordking on OpenSUSE TW.
Google Accounts are registered within my KDE settings and have the permissions to read Mail.
THunderbird can read and send GMail Mail but KMail cannot.
It worked month before but stopped working a few month ago.
Now I would like to fix it - but I can’t find any documentation that I trust any more at the moment.
I remember the trick was to create an “App Password” with Google and use it as Login password within KMail. Now I read it’s better to use “plain” as password login Method. Since I use the German version I also - additionally have the option “Klartext” which should be the same as “Plain”… but is it?
Anyway none of the above works - Google recommends using OAuth as login method but with this I get the message that authentication fails in additional areas (whatever that means…)
Has anyone a working GMail account running in Kmail at the moment (using the latest stable KDE?) ?
What is the most recent intended method of using GMail in KMail?
What exactly has to be deleted and erased to completely reconfigure the Gmail accounts in KMail to clear all left over cashes and settings? - I tried a few times and always got stuck with persistent old authentication data, leftover akonadi identities, offline maildirs and probably more debris that I missed…
There was a bug where I had to use StartTLS the first time syncing an IMAP account. Afterwards I was able to switch to SSL/TLS. Maybe that still isn’t fixed and this is a variant of it?
This works with every IMAP account we use just not with the Gmail accounts.
Does Kmail use any additional binaries or services to connect to Gmail accounts? As pointed out - the connection works for a few seconds than drops as “server not available”!
Connecting the account via CLI also works fine and stable. So I guess there must be some additional connection required just for keeping the Google account connection alive…
The whole Account - in kmail if you go “restart mailbox” on one of the Gmail accounts they show a connection for a while (though nothing gets downloaded or synchronized) then after a few, maybe 30 seconds, status switches to “offline”. I had a look at it at the console yesterday and there was something about “socket not available” or lost.
The firewall is off site guarding the connected LAN - here for direct internet access there is no extra firewall apart from the router defaults.
Once I disconnect my box from the VPN tunnel (wireguard) Gmail accounts work as expected - well, apart from the configuration workaround mess they still present in Kmail.
hey, I have exactly the same problem with Gmail when trying to use the App Password and with manual settings exactly as shown by @krake . And its always “online” and then immediately “offline”.
Oauth works, but everything is so slow over Gmail IMAP.
