KMail – I can no longer move emails manually

I have a freshly installed Kubuntu 25.10 with Plasma 6.4.5, Qt 6.9.2 and Wayland.

A few days ago, I installed Kontact and KMail 6.5.1 (25.08.1) and set up two IMAP mailboxes. The local folder is empty. Filters and automatic archiving have been set up for both mailboxes. So far, everything has worked as expected.

Since this morning, I have been unable to move an email into one of the left-hand folders using the mouse. It was still working yesterday. Today, a prohibition sign appears on the mouse pointer as soon as I drag an email. Moving or copying via the context menu doesn’t work either, as the context menu closes as soon as I move the mouse or keyboard to the right within the relevant menu item to select the destination.

Moving to the Trash via the context menu works. However, they deleted emails cannot be found in Trash using the search bar, although they do appear in the message list.

Restarting the system has not changed anything.

Everything else seems to be working. KMail can send and receive emails. Changes (reading, deleting) are also reflected on the server and other client.

What can I do?

It is a bug similar to this one

You must fill a report at https://bugs.kde.org/

Thanks for your help, but as I’ve just discovered, it’s apparently not a bug but a feature:

KMail > Preferences > Configure KMail > Miscellaneous > Enable drag and drop of folders (I have the German GUI). In my opinion, it should say ‘Enable drag and drop of messages into folders’, but never mind – I can now move messages manually again.

One question remains: why the setting changed, because it worked fine at the start.
