Kmail is broken and accounts are offline

I switched from Kmail to Thunderbird and then back to Kmail again, because I prefer the Kmail interface. However, every time I try to use it, I get very frustrated because it often doesn’t work.

Recently, a bug has been preventing me from viewing my emails. I can wait for it to be fixed, but I can still read them online or on my mobile phone. I can still manage and archive emails on my PC using just the subject lines.

But today my accounts are down, and there’s no way to get them online. It’s as if my account passwords aren’t being read. I’ve tried restarting Akonadi and reading any errors, but I don’t understand any of it. I’m attaching a screenshot to show the error I see in the notification, although I must say that my accounts use app-specific passwords generated by the provider. I also tried changing them, but it’s as if Kmail doesn’t remember them.

Can this be fixed? Alternatively, are there other minimal email clients that work well with KDE? Apart from Thunderbird and Kmail?
I’m really sorry because I had configured Kontact, calendars, contacts and email, and I like the integration with KDE, but it’s impossible to use them on a daily basis without spending the rest of the day restarting Akonadi.

:slightly_frowning_face:

You can consider Merkuro Mail but I have not tried it as a daily driver.

Or, as an alternative to Thunderbird, Evolution.

You can and should report bugs for KMail in the meantime.

Merkuro would not solve anything, because it shares the backend (Akonadi) with KMail.

I’m not sure that this is the same issue that I recently had with KOrganizer and Google Calendar (for work, don’t judge), but just in case, maybe you’re running into this issue:

The workaround at the end of this issue fixed my problem.

you are right. I tried Merkuro out of curiosity but in the end using Akonadi. I stille prefer Kmail, and within last update all my issues are sorted out.
