kMyMoney date formatting help

This is sort of driving me crazy. I have found this reference ( KMyMoney/FAQ - KDE UserBase Wiki ) for formatting dates in the process of importing data from .QIF files, and I’m ready to do that. I just can’t find any place where a format goes in the program. Is that some sort of resource/config file externally?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Could you tell us which version of KMyMoney you use (in menu Help → about KMyMoney) and your operating system?
Could you show the issue with a few screenshots? It may help understanding the issue.

Thanks.

Sorry, tried to edit afterwards but no way to do that.

I’m using one of the prebuilt Windows versions (Version 5.2.1-6774de7), Windows 11

First, are you actually having any problems? Many times, KMyMoney can figure out the date format. (I am assuming you mean the separator and the relative order of day, month, and year.)

I also recall that this can be specified in the QIF profile, which you should be able to choose, edit, or create a new one when you import a QIF file. This is actually mentioned in the FAQ entry in the link you provided - is the explanation not sufficient for your needs?

Yes, I think I was actually having problems. The new new version I just installed appears to have jumped forward a bunch. While I do see mention of QIF profiles in the docs and in fact there is a pull-down option to choose QIF profiles in the account setup sequence, the only one listed is Default.

However…. there’s now a “pick the date format for your input file”.

I need to poke at this a bit more with this new capability. Thank you for your help! I have a positive feeling about this, I’m hoping to kick Quicken to the curb ASAP.

YES! Don’t give up. There are minor pains with using KMM, but in the long run it is definitely worth it. A

“Default” is the (yes) default profile the program ships with. In many cases, that will be enough for you, possible editing the date format. In case you import QIF files from different sources which use different layouts/features, you can create additional QIF profiles.

Here’s how to get to the QIF profile editor in case you have not found it in the meantime:

  1. Open the settings and select the plugins tab
  2. Click the configure button
  3. Create a new profile
  4. Select the date format

Your new profile should then appear in the selection combo boxes.

That looks like a Mac/Apple screen. Is it the same in Windows-land?

I believe that is actually Linux, where all the core development takes place, and the basic layout should be the same on all platforms.
