This might be intended or a bug? When in the Investment view securities tab, double clicking on the security brings up the security edit window - as expected. When in the equities tab, double clicking on a transaction also brings up the securities edit window - not as expected. One needs to click on the ledger tab to edit the transaction. A small detail but it had me confused until I spotted it.
Which version of KMyMoney is this?
In the Investments View, the Securities tab shows ALL securities you own, no matter in which (if any) account you own them. For me, double clicking there does nothing - I have to right click for a context menu to edit an entry. Then Equities tab shows all securities you own in the Investment Account shown in the drop-down at the top of the list. There (at least for me) double clicking an entry invokes the security edit wizard (actually labelled new investment wizard.) Neither of the tabs is a ledger - both display securities, neither displays transactions, so I don’t see why you would expect to edit a transaction from that display.
Version Version 5.2.1-db083e7
I only mention this because the slight inconsistencies between windows increase the learning curve. Once figured out, there is no problem. Only a thought. No axe to grind.
Steps
Investments (left task bar) > window with tabs Equities and Securities.
Within Equities tab
Double clicking on a line shows the Investment type and Security details for editing.
Within Securities tab
Double clicking does nothing. To edit a line, one has to select right click edit security. This also shows the Security details.
My first assumption when double clicking. or right click edit, on something with quantities would bring up something to edit the numbers. i.e. The Ledger. However, one has to click on the Goto ledger button in the Equities Tab. (My apologies for calling it a tab).
A single line of code makes the difference.
Probably not the most elegant UX solution. Nothing we can’t change though if there is a better way.
When I click on the “Go To Ledger” button/tab/ nothing happens– except it acts like it is responding, but it does not send me to the ledger. (KMM 5.2.1 from Flatpak on Fedora)
KMyMoney Version 5.2.70-5490644d3 just compiled from git head master branch. (double clicking an entry in the Security Tab does open the Edit Investment Wizard still labelled New Investment Wizard, but that’s an old issue, probably never formally flagged.)
In the Investments view, I do not see “Go To Ledger” or “Open Ledger” in the context menu for an entry in either the Equities Tab or the Securities Tab. In the Securities Tab, menu items Account/Open ledger and Category/Open ledger are disabled. In the Equities Tab, both of those menu selection open the ledger for the Investment Account shown in the dropdown at the top of the Equities Tab.
Separately, I realize the “Goto Ledger” button may have been added to your toolbar - I do not have it. However, I actually do not find any button “Goto Ledger.”
My bad. That button IS present and it does work correctly. My bad. Need more coffee.
Y’all are half right.
In the appImage version (Version 5.2.1-c9efa7a, kMyMoney-5.2.5096) it works as advertised.
However, in the FlatPak version (5.2.1) that I downladed yesterday, the “Go To Ledger” button does not go anywhere. It lets me click away…click…click….(and it just blinks at me and my frustration, but it takes me nowhere.
)
The version on Flathub is the stable released version, so it won’t have the bugfix until a new version is released. If you want to try the nightly flatpak built from the master git branch, you can install it with:
flatpak install -u https://cdn.kde.org/flatpak/kmymoney-nightly/org.kde.kmymoney.flatpakref
Thanks, MRP. This is no biggee. But I will keep that link in case I need it in the future.
Happy new year to you all! A
