KmyMoney sort order is baffling- I want ledger sort order descending, but...

Hey all, I have searched high and low and am still confused. I want my KMyMoney ledger sort order to be descending, that is, newest entries at the top rather than oldest. When I use Ledger > Sorting, the only Sort item I use is Post Date. The default Ascending looks fine. Oldest entries are at the top, all the columns contain the correct information, and the running Balance is in red.

When I click Post Date to Descending the newest items are at the top where I want them, but the Balance column is all messed up, and the red highlighting is gone. I have systematically tried every option in the Sorting configurator, and all I got for it was a headache and a strong desire to set all of my computers on fire and run away to the woods and live with my friends the squirrels and eat interesting mushrooms.

In the days of paper ledgers we had no choice but to use Ascending order. Those days are long gone  Am I trying to do something that KMyMoney cannot do?

thanks for any help!

Descending sort order:

Don’t go that route  but rather think about using a newer version of KMyMoney (>= 5.2.1). With that it should be possible what you’re trying to achieve. Looking at the second screen shot it seems that you’re using version 5.1.3 or older which indeed does not really support it.

Nevertheless, even with a newer version the balance will differ when looking at a single transaction.

Thanks for the fast reply. Don’t go that route? Are you nuts? It looks better the more I think about it. You can come too. Everyone is invited!

Sorry, I forgot version info. KMyMoney 5.1.3, Linux Mint XFCE 22.2. This isn’t a major issue, more of a nice-to-have. Thank you for KMyMoney, it is a great application and I appreciate all the good work.

So this forum forces me to add at least 15 characters of text and not only the smiley. That should do it.
