How to set Konquerer as the default file-manager in dialogs? like ‘open file’ and ‘save’ etc.
I’m on Mint 22.1. In the Mint settings > default application, I set Konquerer as the default. But it seems to ignore that in the dialogs.

Hi - as a general rule, Open and Save dialogs don’t use a full file management application like Konqueror, but instead use purpose-built dialog boxes. Those are provided either by the applications themselves (often from their toolkits, like GTK, Qt, etc.), or by the desktop environment / portal.
I’m not aware of any work that’s been done to turn Konqueror into a “provider” of Open and Save dialogs - at least based on how things went with GNOME and Nautilus, it’s not necessarily a trivial task to do so: Provide FileChooser portal backend (#3401) · Issues · GNOME / Files · GitLab
To maybe step back a bit, though - what are you hoping to accomplish by changing the open and save dialogs? Basically, what are you hoping Konqueror would do differently that the current dialogs don’t do in Mint?
Anyway, 3 seems to be my own personal oddity, as I, to my own surprise, I did not meet any mint user agreeing with this. But I think 1 and 2 more people could agree with.
I’ve not tried places but I do use “papaly dot com” to manage bookmarks, I hear it’s no longer supported, but it’s better than filling up your cache with bookmarks.
Is there any way to unlink-Gnome from the browser? When I snap install Firefox & Chrome I get unwanted GTK desktop installs on a KDE system. When I try to remove them snap complains they are linked to a process.
Thanks for the explanation - yep, I can understand and would share that feedback myself if those features weren’t available to me. That functionality would need to be implemented in what I assume is a GTK-based file picker used in Mint, provided by the Cinnamon desktop environment, by default.
Perhaps that’s feedback that the Mint team would be interested in, considering the whole XApps project and their wanting to be less dependent on GNOME-specific work?
@David_Lee The GTK application toolkit is used by a lot of applications (including at least Firefox), so having that installed - especially in a containerized format like Snap or Flatpak - doesn’t mean that you have the GNOME desktop environment installed
