Konqueror Integration with Nextcloud: Bookmarks and Passwords

Hello,

I realize that most users use Firefox or Chromium as their web browser. Personally, I feel like they always seem out of place in Plasma (subjectively). In the future, I’d like to use only Plasma (QT applications).

With Koqueror, I miss being able to save my bookmarks and passwords to my own Nextcloud—just like with other browsers—so I can sync them across all my devices. Is there a way to do this?

Best regards

Have you tried brave-origin or brave-browser? It gives me the ability to choose QT. I don’t know about any other browsers, as I don’t use them.

konqueror doesnt talk to nextcloud bookmarks/passwords natively afaik. closest ive done:

-bookmarks: sync ~/.local/share/konqueror/bookmarks.xml (path can vary) with the nextcloud desktop client or rclone
-passwords: kwallet stays local. nextcloud passwords is web/browser side, no konqueror plugin last i checked

falkon is another qt browser if u just want plasma looking chrome, still no nextcloud sync built in tho.

I checked out both browsers (Brave Origin, Falcon). I like Falcon best in terms of its Qt look and feel. But neither of them offers the option to save passwords and bookmarks to the local Nextcloud via an extension (not via NC-Filesync).

You could make a script to check your Konqueror bookmarks and passwords (in the config files) then sync them based on which is newer, or sync a copy in case you edited your bookmarks/passwords externally.

I know it’s not the same, but it’s something. It would not rely on whether a developer supports or doesn’t support a platform, browser, etc.

I’m currently revamping my system: I’ve removed the “Password” extension from Nextcloud and migrated my login credentials to KeePassXC. NC-Password has its issues. KeePassXC works much more reliably and is more user-friendly. Although KeePassXC uses Nextcloud to keep its database synchronized across multiple clients, this unfortunately also means the option to “build your own password sync for Konqueror” is no longer available. But that’s just a side note.

I don’t think my goal of having a QT-based browser like Konqueror with password and bookmark synchronization is really feasible at the moment.

Eventually, I’d like to get rid of all GTK applications on my Plasma desktop

I’ve been using it for a few years now, and it’s gets better with each update, but it is finicky sometimes. So, if Nextcloiud is worse, then :grimacing:

You should take a look at KaOS and Nitrux for examples of how to do this. Both distros are dedicated to Qt-only apps. Nitrux foxes on Qt+Maui.
