I am having some problems using Kmail and Kontact together. A while back I used kmail standalone. Now I would like to use Kontact. I am seeing a number of difference between the kmail settings that I can access through the ‘configure Kontact’ option and what I can access in the ‘configure Kmail’ option (both available within kontact). Moreover, there are also difference in settings that I can see in kmail when it is run as a standalone app.
For instance I can only set some shortcut keys, and message tags, in kmail settings not the kontact-kmail settings. Same with templates; editing one of the standard templates in ‘configure kontact’ has no effect, but does if set using the ‘configure kmail’.
Also if I try to enable using an external editor my composer windows look like this:

I am guessing that it might have something to do with inconsistent settings between kontact-kmail and kmail.
Could anyone tell me how I can make the settings between kmail and kontact consistent?
I have tried deleting various *rc file in ~/.config but it did not resolve the problem. I know there are different places where kmail stores some settings and where kontact does, but (I assume) they should be syncing, and they are not.
