Hello,
I am trying to batch rename several folders using Krename.
I open Krename, press Add. The Add files and folders dialog appears. I open the folder that contains the folders to be renamed. I check the Add folder names only, and highlight the folders to be renamed.
Up to this point everything works perfectly. However, the Open button, that would add the folder names to the rename list, is greyed out and does not work. If I only add one folder name it works, but when I have dozens of folders it is very time consuming to add them one at a time.
It used to work perfectly well about a week ago, before some system update. My system is Tuxedo, which had an upgrade, something about Ubuntu LTS.
When I last had problems with Krename, it got repaired by installing kio, but this time it says that kio is the latest version so nothing happens.
Any ideas how to solve this?
Thanks.
install thunar, it should install “Bulk Rename” which has a nice interface which should get the job done
Thanks for the suggestion. I tried using Thunar, and it more or less worked, but the regex rename is very limited, and even more unwieldy than in krename.
I would very much appreciate a solution for selecting multiple folders in Krename, though, seeing as it has worked perfectly until last week or so.
Szyszka is worth a try too.
no idea about ubuntu I’m afraid, I’d remove krename and reinstall.
I see dolphin is getting a more capable built in rename, should be a nice upgrade.
and a setting to change drag and drop behaviour in KRename would be nice too, to pick between “add folders as files” or “add folder contents” .
and it’d be nice to make a selection in dolphin, hit F4 and run a script on that selection. but the console can’t read your selection…
I tried it, it has the same limited regex as thunar. I also tried reinstalling Krename, but no luck.
In fact, Krename does have the option to add folders, folders and the files in them, or just the files. My problem is that this option no longer works with folders. It only works with files.
I suspect that the problem is not Krename itself, but something else in the system, because this is happening after an update, and Krename was not among the things that were updated (I think).
I have found a workaround for this issue, and I am putting it here just in case it helps someone.
If you need to rename folders, you need to go up one layer and select the folder that contains the folders to be renamed, with the Add folder names only option checked. The Open button is now active, and this adds all the folders in that folder to the rename list. This is annoying, because you then have to remove any folders that you do not want renamed, but at least it works…
Sorry for reviving this, but I just wanted to add that this happens with the Krename version installed from the Tuxedo repos. I had this installed when the system upgrade happened.
However, I uninstalled that version and I installed the Flatpak version, which works as it should. I had to fiddle with its permissions in Flatseal, to allow access to external drives, but it works.
Maybe this is an indication that something else than Krename is borked, but I have no idea what, so i am open to suggestions…
Thanks
