With the download order plugin could we also have a ‘file skip’ option to avoid downloading certain not needed files and also a way to view all the files within a selected torrent once downloaded or while downloading?
Similar behavior to Deluge.
I think both ktorrent and deluge are great with ktorrent having a lot more options and these two features would really add to the experience. TIA
I actually like qbittorrent more, but I’m curious how strict download ordering would work better than the usual priority system.
Sometimes, if a part of the file is temporarily unavaliable, you can download other parts - but if a seeder having a specific file isn’t available (even though you want that FIRST, and marked it HIGH priority) then downloading of other content will continue.
Overall, qBittorrent was much better than Deluge. But also, isn’t it possible in KTorrent (as it is with qBittorrent I’m sure) to look at file content and simply hit the checkmark to de-select any files you don’t want - or toggle them all off and select only the ones you DO want?
I find this useful with something like a long series of large files, where I want to get the first five, and as I deal with each one I can toggle off the first download (removing it) and toggling on the next one so that I have constantly five useful files out of however many are in the torrent.
OK I’ll give qbittorrent a go, it’s already installed as it’s good to have alternatives and deluge isn’t cooperating with me at the moment (separate thing) but yeah I like deluge for it’s straight forwardness with the add torrent box letting you select / deselect whatever files you want right off the bat.
Ktorrent is good, the gui is bit a cluttered but it works well and I didn’t find a way select / deselect files when you add torrents but I do like the program and use it.
Grabbing torrents from internet archive as an example, they have padding files and info texts and whatever that you don’t really need so being able to forego downloading these not really needed files right out the gate is great.
Yeah I agree when you’ve got a big torent with a lot of large files, being able to only download a few at a time saves on disk usage and space issues.

You can enter ‘filenames to be excluded’:
Torrents absolutely put up an ‘Add Torrent’ dialog which enables you to accept or selectively choose which files to accept/deny before adding… but you can also enter items in the custom filter list.

This does mean that I must physically select these files to override the list if I actually want them.
For some private trackers, this might lead to seeding issues (only complete torrents) - so it’s wise to process public trackers separately. It’s good to set sane defaults (public) and groups with rules for private trackers.
qBittorrent has a deal more built in as default - I left Deluge because many of the plugins I used were simply outdated as Deluge was developed (this was many years ago now).
Yeah, added a few torrents to qbtorrent and the selection box appeared once it had all the info on the torrent, perfect.
Thanks for the tip on the exclusion routine, that’s good to set and forget files we don’t want or need.
Yeah deluge hasn’t been great for awhile now which is a bummer, and yeah the 3rd party plugin thing wasn’t great when they weren’t being updated to fit with newer releases. A lot of them were really good but yeah, when a new release came out most of them broke. Dun dun duhhh.
I’ll be using qBittorrent as my goto for a while, it’s looking good.
