I recently did a fresh install of openSUSE KDE and I’m running into this annoying issue with KWallet. Here’s what happened
Installed openSUSE (fully updated).
Installed Google Chrome using opi chrome.
First time I opened Chrome, KWallet popped up (unexpected).
I chose Blowfish and set the same password as my login password.
I do not have auto-login enabled — I disabled it during installation.
Still, every time I reboot or log in, KWallet asks for the password when I open Chrome or ProtonVPN.
Shouldn’t KWallet unlock automatically on login if I’m using the same password? Is there anything else I’m missing? It’s really frustrating to enter the wallet password every single time just to use Chrome or ProtonVPN.
I might remember wrong, but try with naming the wallet “kdewallet” (without quotes) and use same password as login. Warning: I do not know if this is best practice from a security standpoint, but you could at least try as part of your troubleshooting process. I also think I had to use Blowfish instead of Gnupg.
I’ve had this happen a couple times, on both Fedora and PCLinuxOS, where after an update, suddenly KWallet (which until then I didn’t know existed) is demanding attention every time I log in (automatic), and occasionally elsewhen.
So I looked for “wallet” in Settings, and unchecked the box that says something like “Use KWallet Subsystem” which I had not checked or even looked at before, so I blame the update. Problem solved.
