KWallet keeps asking for password every time I open Chrome or ProtonVPN (fresh openSUSE install)

I recently did a fresh install of openSUSE KDE and I’m running into this annoying issue with KWallet. Here’s what happened

  1. Installed openSUSE (fully updated).

  2. Installed Google Chrome using opi chrome.

  3. First time I opened Chrome, KWallet popped up (unexpected).

  4. I chose Blowfish and set the same password as my login password.

  5. I do not have auto-login enabled — I disabled it during installation.

  6. Still, every time I reboot or log in, KWallet asks for the password when I open Chrome or ProtonVPN.

Shouldn’t KWallet unlock automatically on login if I’m using the same password? Is there anything else I’m missing? It’s really frustrating to enter the wallet password every single time just to use Chrome or ProtonVPN.

Appreciate any help. Thanks!

Yes. There is a PAM module for this.

No idea how that is called on openSUSE though :see_no_evil_monkey:

‘pam_kwallet6’ is already installed

pam module is installed but not configured it seems

looks live alot of people having the same issue after an update

opensuse forum

not sure the issue is with kwallet or opensuse

Yea I ran into the issue on my roommates machine. Have to click cancel twice on a Wallet password popup before the browser will load.

I might remember wrong, but try with naming the wallet “kdewallet” (without quotes) and use same password as login. Warning: I do not know if this is best practice from a security standpoint, but you could at least try as part of your troubleshooting process. I also think I had to use Blowfish instead of Gnupg.
