Hi
I’m trying to debug a strange kwin behaviour and would appreciate any help.
I recently had to re-install my system due to a hard drive failure, the previous system was Fedora KDE 44 (upgraded from 43), now with Fedora 44 KDE (no issues with the previous system). I’m using an Nvidia card and drivers.
Now, when returning from screen power off (either due to timeout or explicitly via kscreen-doctor -d off) the windows stacking seems off:
- The desktop does not work
- Window selection with the mouse does not work (alt-tab does)
- When using “Peek at Desktop” the desktop does work, until stopping peeking
- Generally, it behaves as if there’s a hidden window behind the active window that captures the mouse events
Things I’ve tried:
- Logs: couldn’t find anything strange
- Windows/window stacking via kwin debug console: the same before and after dpms
- plasmashell restart: fixes the issue, until the next screen power off
- kwin restart: fix the issue until the next restart (!)
- Downgrading to SDDM: no change
Since restarting kwin fixes the issue (until the next restart) I assume it’s something with kwin configuration, but have no idea where to start looking
