For years, I have been struggling to determine if my GPU was defective, since no applications used it. Last week, I have discovered DRI_PRIME=1
, which tells all applications to use the second GPU, in my case, discrete. Silly laptop things, I guess.
Anyway, worked great! Kinfocenter now showed my AMD chip as the first card, and Natron now rendered using my dGPU instead of iGPU. I went ahead and ran an update, which I believe included a new kernel (and grub update), and lots of plasma updates. After that point, I could no longer launch wayland.
Wayland is fine, as Weston runs fine.
