Laptop starts in tty

Since it got updatet to 6.7 my laptop starts into tty login

i have to use startplasma-wayland to get into the normal gui

(I am still a linux noob, sorry )

Just to let you know you are not the only one.
Both my machines boot to the login prompt since the latest updates.

Looks like an issue with sddm (the graphical login manager).
I think I heard they transitioned to Plasma Login Manager but not sure.

I managed to get one of my machines working by reinstalling sddm but I cant get the other one to work trying to do the same things, maybe I remembered the process wrong.

Also theres issues with kwallet. Looks like something broke as it lose all my wifi passwords, VPN keys you name it. Also ssh agent isnt working, possibly connected.

I’m a really big fan of Neon but unfortunately this is the worst update I’ve had in a long while.

@kizzmo This seemed to work for me…

sudo systemctl enable plasmalogin --now

It basically changes your laptop from using sddm to plm (Plasma Login Manager).
For me this solved the problem on the machine I couldnt get sddm working on.

This is where I am at now after the update…

  • Login with Plasma Login Manager is now working (see fix above)

  • kwallet is working but lost everything so I’ve had to add all the passwords back in

  • kdeconnectd using 100% CPU - has to be killed until I figure out whats going on, maybe connected to kwallet?

  • ssh-agent is running but my terminals cant connect to it, I have to run:
    eval $(ssh-agent -s)
    ssh-add

Yeah. After the last big update there were issues too. A bit annoying.

Damn, that sucks. Hope you didn’t have too much passwords.

Discover broke too (saw another topic about it already)

Thanks Daniel! Now only if “auto login” would work, I would be back to where I was yesterday.

I really should have reported it earlier, but I was busy/lazy.

Interesting, this also happened on my laptop but not on my desktop. Laptop was a kinda recent Neon install while my desktop is an upgraded one with lots of extra stuff, custom kernel etc.
