Hi guys!
I am using Manjaro KDE since few months. Today my big kid ask me to add a profile to my PC so she can do her homeworks.
I added the profile and switch to it without problems but when I tried to switch back to my profile I stuck on the splash screen. Yes I was able to switch with ctrl+alt_F1 or F2, but then some of my app didn’t work at all.
For example I was unable to reboot my PC and had to do it from the terminal.
To be hones I am very surprised to see a common functionality like this is problematic on such polished desktop like Plasma!
Here is some information for my system:
Operating System: Ubuntu 22.04
KDE Plasma Version: 6.2.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.10.0
Qt Version: 6.8.2
Kernel Version: 6.12.12-2-MANJARO (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 5800H with Radeon Graphics
Memory: 28,3 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon Graphics
Manufacturer: AZW
Product Name: SER
I saw similar problems reported about 2 years later, but looks like this is some kind of bug IMO.
Any help is appreciated!
It’s funny to see the ways in which our kids want to express their individuality and independence
If you’re running into that issue when choosing the “Switch User” option from the Application Menu or KRunner, as opposed to logging out of one user and then logging in to another, then you’re likely experiencing this issue: 500038 – Attempting to switch user via Kicker caused Plasma Shell to crash.
I experienced something almost similar, but it didn’t get stuck but instead it took a really long time to switch. About 10 minutes. This happened on my laptop.
But I was patient to wait because It happened before on my faster computer, where I waited about 2 minutes to switch the user.
I am talking about leaving the first user session active and then switching to another user by logging in and starting a 2nd session. And then, while leaving the 2nd session active, switching back to the first user. This last part is the one that is taking forever to restore the session. I think mentioning that I have 64GB and that swapping to HDD is disabled is important too.
Well, to be honest it was my idea to create a second user Often when any of my kids sit on the PC I found new icons here and there. I found the kids do strange key combinations who leads to unexpected results
Any way, looks like the problem you mention is same.
Regards!
Hi!
The steps you described are as in my experience - log as user 1, switch to user 2, then tray to go back to user 1. I do it from the start menu > Switch user. On the last switch I see the splash screen, it took about 1-2 minutes then it froze. I see my cursor and that is all. For my luck I found ctrl+alt+F1/2/3 works so at the end I just restarted from the terminal.
Last few month I am very happy with KDE and Manjaro, hope they will fix this!
By the way I installed Fedora KDE in VirtualBox and at least there there is no bug.
Regards!
