MBition, the company that designs and implements infotainment systems for Mercedes-Benz, has become a KDE patron

MBition uses KDE technologies and developers’ know-how to create attractive and responsive interfaces that make Mercedes vehicles easier to drive and safer for their occupants.

Crazy, two companies/projects (Mercedes and KDE) that couldnt be more different.

And yet, both of them use KWin in their flagship products!

Companies have a long history of using FLOSS projects as high-octane, but quite affordable R&D departments. Becoming a patron ensures the continuity of projects they are interested in using, but would be much more expensive to develop from scratch themselves. It makes perfect business sense.
