Media persist during lockscreen and TV/Screen powered off

Hi all,

In short, I have a 5.1 surround system between the TV and the PC. HDMI cables. KDE Plasma (Wayland) 6.3.6 paired with Pipewire 1.4.2

I’d like the system to continue playing media while the TV is off.
In System Settings > Power Management > Advanced Power Settings, I have unticked the “pause media players when suspending” option.
I have also set Power Management to not Suspend on inactivity.

In practice, when I manually lock the screen, the media player (VLC for example) continues playing. When I then turn off the TV, the media goes silent for a few seconds, then returns! Then sadly within a minute of the TV being powered off, all goes silent until I hit a key on my keyboard to get the Lockscreen active again (TV remains off during this moment, and audio resumes).

Feels like this is a simple problem to solve, but I’m at a loss. Thanks in advance.

I feel this is likely a setting or limitation of the surround sound system. How is the TV/Surround system detected in linux? Then what is the difference when the TV is turned off? Do you also have a separate monitor or is the TV acting as your monitor?

Supplying the output of inxi -zv8 will likely answer most of these questions.
