Menu open and window placement under dual screen setup

I sometimes use my laptop for presentations. The projector is left of my laptop. Screens are set to be extended, not copied.

I have my KDE menu (overview) bar put vertically along the left edge of my screen. When I open my menu, the open menu appears on the screen of the projector, not on my laptop screen. Also, often, new program will open on the projector screen, although my laptop screen is set as primary.

Is this a bug, or did I do something wrong?

i think plasma is putting kickoff / new windows on the leftmost screen, and with the projector mapped left of the laptop that lands on the projector.

try doin this:

  1. open display settings and drag the projector to the right of the laptop (keep laptop as primary)
  2. or move that vertical panel to the bottom edge of the laptop screen for presentations
  3. for new windows, system settings → window management → window rules → new rule → match the app → size & position → force screen = the laptop

after the layout flip, reopen the menu once and see if it stays on the laptop.
