Meta+w not showing virtual desktops if in other configurations than one line

I have mentioned this before, and I consider this a bug, but I also don’t use the feature (I prefer meta + g) so I am too lazy to bug report it create an issue/make a feature request about it.

How to reproduce:

  • Set up virtual desktops in 2 directions
  • press meta + w

Example:

Meta+w

As you can see there are no virtual desktop windows shown.

If you have a vertical line of desktops, the desktops show on the left, if on a horizontal line, they are at the top.

My suggested way of showing the desktops in this situation is to show desktop 1 & 2 above, and desktop 3 to the left.

But I do realize it involves a whole bunch of problems because, what happens if I add another desktop on line 2, where should that be shown?

I just thought it was worth making a defenetive post about it once and for all, even though I don’t actually request it to be “fixed”.

It’s borderline not a bug, it’s just my opinion something should be shown at least, or the whole meta +w thing is absolutely useless in this situation.
Maybe just an error message. KDE have to get rid of these “silent errors”.

Agreed.

This was discussed before, though I can’t quite remember if a ‘fix’ was being considered - but I’m aware of a few folks who are really disappointed by KDE doing this, and instead view it as a ‘Gnomification’ at the expense of useability.
