More info on krfb-virtualmonitor

I just came across the existence of krfb-virtualmonitor by chance, and “Offer a Virtual Monitor that can be accessed remotely” sounds of interest to something I’m looking for, but there is no documentation about it to speak of.

How is one supposed to use it, and with what goal? Can it be run outside of a Plasma session, and the session then be launched on it instead of a real monitor? That is the sort of usage I’m interested in, but I have had discussions about krfb before that have made clear that that is not what they have in mind overall, so I’m just wondering what it’s actually meant to be used for.

Thanks in advance if you can enlighten me a bit.

I’d like to know this as well, currently it doesn’t seem possible to use a Krfb session without a display being turned on (wayland).

@dsine-de , unfortunately so far there is nothing much useful to report on this. Work is happening with KRDP and also within plasma-login-manager and other subprojects towards an all-virtual session being possible, but it’s not there yet. More info here.

On the KRFB side there does not seem to be much happening at all so I dunno what will happen with that. It may be that once the necessary low-level work is done to support KRDP headless, it’ll be easy enough for KRFB to piggyback on, but the latter project just seems quite sleepy at the moment.
