Multiple investment accounts duplicate securities?

I have two investment accounts. To buy the same security in both accounts it seems that I need to create the security twice and in the Securities Tab in Investments it shows up twice. If both have the same name it is not possible to distinguish which is for which account. It is also not visible in the setting of the security. Is that the current state in KMyMoney or did I miss something here?

I set up my securities a while back in multiple accounts so I will check the creation part to validate, however, you should only have 1 security in the securities tab. I do recall they had to be “created/added” for each account, but you end up with singles not multiples. Give me a few hours and I’ll get back to you.

I’m pretty sure it is mentioned in the Handbook (and if not, it is in the version which will be released with the next version.) The trick is that when you add the stock to the second account, when you get to the page with all the information about it, delete everything except the symbol, then when you hit “next” it will ask if you want to use the already existing security. If you end up with duplicates, you can change the name of the one you want to get rid of so you can distinguish them, then convert any existing transactions from the old to the new version of the security and then you can delete the duplicate/old one.

Thanks a lot, that did the trick!
I actually came across the handbook when searching for a solution, but the layout lead me astray. I came to the first page of the investment chapter with the table of content and the first part of the chapter and thought that that was all and didn’t realize there are more pages. I think it would have helped me, if the table of content had it’s own page.
