My phone screen is broken, can I still connect

I dropped my phone (Samsung S10) and broke the screen. I am not logged in, and can’t log in due to the broken screen. Is there any way I can still connect to it. I would like to pull some data off of it. The computer I am trying to connect from is running Debian Sid. Thanks for any help.

You can try.

Your phone needs to have wifi on and the app on the phone to have filesystem access at least.

I did try, but without being able to login, I can’t pair the device. I was hoping there was some trick to bypass this.

First, welcome to the KDE Discuss Forum.

Due to the Samsung settings of Android and SELinux, when you connect from a Linux system to the Samsung Mobile Telephone via a USB-C cable, a pop-up window will appear on the Samsung device asking to confirm that, you want to access that device from the Linux system.

  • Your Telephone’s screen seems to be broken in such a way that, it’s unusable – therefore you’ll not be able to access the Samsung device via a USB-C cable.

If you purchase a new Samsung Telephone, you may be lucky and be able to pull your data from the old Telephone to the new Telephone by simply placing the two devices alongside each other.

Apart from that, you’ll have to find someone who can replace the glass interface on the Samsung device.

  • If you have stored your data on the Telephone on a micro-SD card then, with a Card-Reader on the Linux system, you’ll be able to access everything on that card.
Android is Linux «actually SELinux» – it uses Linux file systems and therefore, you can access the data from another Linux system.

Thanks, you confirmed my suspicions that without a new screen there is no way to access the data. I’m not buying another Samsung.

A Duck-Duck-Go search for “Samsung mobile telephone broken screen recover data” revealed more than a few hints:
