Need Help disabling a weird alarm sound

Hello everyone,
I have the following issue: Today, I pressed the CTRL button for a few seconds (like 10, I’m not sure anymore) and now there’s an annoying alarm sound everytime I press CTRL. This only happens when I have media (FreeTube, Spotify, etc.) running. This isn’t part of the sound theme, as the sound still occurs, even when I have disabled message sounds in the system settings.

I’m running Plasma 6.3, if that helps.
I didn’t change any settings, just pressed the CTRL key for some time.

There are two types of the alarm sound:

  • One that occurs when i just press the CTRL key
  • One that occurs when ihold the button pressed for few seconds (~5)
If necessary, I can provide recordings of the sounds.

If you need any additional informations, I’ll try to answer them.
Thanks for the help!

I think this is related to the accessibility settings. By holding CTRL you probably activated the “slow keys” feature that might cause unexpected input behaviour as well.
See System Settings → Accessibility → Activation shortcuts / Keyboard Filters.

Slow Keys is disabled in the Settings, Disabling the Notification sounds also doesn’t work.
I’ll test if this issue also happens in GNOME, if yes then It’s a system problem.
Still thanks for the advice.

Also an additional information:
The sound doesn’t seem to be a part of the Plasma sound themes, as both the Ocean and Freedesktop sound themes don’t have this error sound in them.

Update:
The Issue isn’t occurring on GNOME. This is a Plasma only issue.
Pressing Control + Shift + T brings the sound back. I will wait a few days for any answers here. If nothing helps, I will ask in the Fedora Forums.

Any chance that it’s happening specifically in GTK-based applications? Remove/Disable a sound from System Sound pack - Plasma 6.3.0

If KWrite is written in Qt (which it is as far as I know), then it is something not related to Qt/Gtk. I changed the settings files as shown in the linked post, logged off and back in (to GNOME) and pressed the Terminal shortcut a few times. at the 4th or 5th there was a beep and then the issue started again. I’ll check if this happens on the X11 based versions of Plasma and Gnome and then tell what I found out.

Also occurs on X11 GNOME and Plasma.
This may be an issue with some config files.

Hope this helps in any way.

Another idea: assuming fedora uses pipewire, you could try using the commands pw-mon and pw-top to show some info about sound activity. This should show which application is making that sound.
If nothing shows up it might be directly by the Laptops hardware, but that seems unlikely.

I used the provided commands, bu it doesn’t show anything.
I will check if this issue persists in the BIOS or other operating systems, but it doesn’t seem like that’s the issue.
Thanks for the reply though.
