When opening an encrypted chat, NeoChat shows This message is encrypted and the sender has not shared the key with this device. I do have the key in the original Element session, as well as another Element session that has restored encryption keys, and in FlufflyChat which seems to fetch keys when verifying with other devices. How can I do the same in NeoChat? Settings - Security seems read only.
I was just gonna ask the same thing! Thanks @TobiasFella. It’s been 6 months now though. Is there any MR already open related to this?
I would be happy if the verification of devices worked, because then I could still read my encrypted messages from the other program. But even if the symbols are correct during verification, the program aborts with the message that they are incorrect.
Hello!
Thank you @TobiasFella for the suggested fix!
Unfortunately for me, applying the fix only seems to help once to decrypt all messages that were already received. All newly received messages after applying the security key are still encrypted and displayed as:
This message is encrypted and the sender has not shared the key with this device.
Prior to applying the fix/workaround, the neochat session was verified by another session. I also tried “Unlock from Cross-Signing” which unfortunately does not change anything.
Is there anything I can do to help? Launching neochat from the terminal does not give provide any logs related to en/decryption, unfortunately.
Additional info: the above behavior was seen when using neochat version 24.12.1-1
on a synapse matrix server, version 1.222.0
