Hi! Why openvpn connection using network manager not working? Before noble its worked fine. Non stop password prompt. In journal i see: Failed to request VPN secrets: User canceled the secrets request. How to fix it?

A few other questions for context (this probably requires someone with more networking knowledge than I do!):

Is the repeated password prompt showing up when trying to activate an existing, configured connection?

Are you able to add a new VPN connection through the System Settings app? Does that new connection work, or does it have the same issue?

If you open KWalletManager, does it show that the main “kdewallet” is open?

In both cases this problem occurs. I don’t use kwallet, the password is saved unencrypted

Having random windows popping up asking for passwords is bad.
When the VPN password is already contained in the openVPN network manager window, a random popup window asking for a password is an alarm. I don’t use Kwallet.

The connection fails with:

Necessary secrets for the VPN connection ‘openvpn_connection.tcp’ were not provided.

Is there a fix?

I created a VPN connection using an OVPN file. In network manager I specified:

  • “store password for all users (unencrypted)”.
  • Automatically connect to the VPN

Every time I try to connect I get a window that pops up:

VPN secrets (openvpn) dialog - KDE Daemon
Authenticate “openvpn_connection.tcp”

Provide the secrets for the VPN connection " "

A password is required.

Unfortunately I found a solution, but not the cause.

Solution: Hard boot. Soft boot doesn’t work.

Observation: More and more Ubuntu is becoming like windows. There was a time one didn’t need to reboot linux.
