Right now if you create a folder using hotkey Ctrl + N while another folder is selected, the newly created folder will be placed inside said selected folder.
IMHO this is a bug as you could create several folders without knowing where they went.
Knowing KDE, this might be intentional but also optional.
Therefore I’m looking for a setting that does not create a folder within a selected folder.
On the web I only could find https:// www . reddit . com/r/kde/comments/1panu9n/new_folders_created_inside_selected_folder/ but there was no solution over there either. (broken link due to platform restrictions)
Currently, this sadly is indeed intentional behavior without any way to configure, but there’s a quite long thread going on over here where some users (including me) are trying to convince the dolphin team that this is very bad UX and should be reverted, if you care to chime in.
That’s great to hear. If nothing else, this change brought on a lot of interesting discussions about UX design, so I don’t think it was completely in vain. Thanks for your efforts!
A question on polls:
The linked polls have 8 and 6 votes, which is not terribly much. As the results align with my workflow, I’m willing to shrug my shoulders over this.
However, in Dolphin’s settings there is a section for user feedback where you can opt-in to participate in polls. Even I have this featured enabled for a long time (I think at least two years), I never saw any poll. I’m not sure if they would have been presented to me or if I would have to search for them, but my guess is that there would be more people who could be reached with this feature and thereby the poll would have had a larger participation and would resemble a bigger share of users and level out particular interest groups.
As the feature is Opt-In only, I see no problem if there was a pop-up (eg. on system startup) asking me on feedback.
(I saw that there is a separate tool for user feedback, but I have no idea with what sever I should connect this one to.)
