No dds preview images in dolphin

For context, I’m on Manjaro.

Just as the title says. I’m getting no preview images for dds files. I think I have all the needed plugins and every other image file shows a preview just fine. But no matter what I do, there’s no image previews.

BUT the strange thing is that the folder preview icon that contains dds files has the usual mini image previews on it.

This folder has nothing but dds files in it.

Would appreciate any help working this out.

Myeah…I have to run those in gimp first. There’s probably some dds viewer out there. I know xnviemp ( whatever the name is) and Nomacs can, but Gimp changes the thumbnail immediately.

I didn’t know this format.

Put:

[Thumbnailer Entry]
Exec=/usr/bin/convert -thumbnail x%s %i png:%o
MimeType=image/x-dds;

in the file ~/.local/share/thumbnailers/dds.thumbnailer and that should be it.
You may need to restart dolphin.

Your first suggestion won’t work. I’ve tried it before, in the root directory. That github dds-thumbnailer might do the trick. There’s something I should mention. Whereas the gimp thingy works, it won’t if the file is acually on the desktop ( not dolphin desktop directory). F5 won’t change that.

It’s called DirectDraw, and it’s used by Windows 9x for like the OOBE and things. “Direct” means it’s using DirectX

You were opening camera in that screenshot.

No. I painted it. Oil on deer hide.

I knew about it by the time you replied, “didn’t know”. Wikipedia has a page for it.

It is good to spell it out.
