No display output on login screen

Hello! I have been using Kubuntu 24.04 for some time and it has been very good.

I decided to upgrade to the latest Kubuntu today using the sudo do-release-upgrade command. This upgraded the system to 24.10 (or 25.04? I can’t remember), so I repeated the process to upgrade to 25.10.

Unfortunately, after the upgrade and restart, the system appeared to be frozen with all three monitors saying there was no input. I tested the caps lock key and it did work, so I tried to input my password and press enter. The displays reconnected and Plasma started up and I was up and running.

I restarted again, but the login screen never displays to the monitors despite running enough to allow me to type in my password and press enter. How can I fix this?

the upgrade path to 25.10 seems to be broken, there is a lot of chatter on kubuntu forums about it.

hopefully you have a timeshift snapshot of your LTS install to fall back to and wait for things to get sorted out.

That unfortunate :frowning:

I do have a snapshot. I’ll revert to the LTS and be more careful about upgrades.
