I installed konqueror 25.04.0 through apt install konqueror in debian13 xfce4.
I want to use konqueror as default for file management and web browsing but the only thing stopping me is that the settings work through KDE System Settings application, and not xfce Settings Manager.
I couldn’t even change the background without manually installing plasma-workspace.
For reference, I am using Greybird-dark style with elementary xfce (HiDPI) icon set. Both of these work perfectly with Nautilus and Epiphany. But not with Konqueror.
I want to apt install something, check the settings, and go do my work, the way god intended. Not spend this much time and effort thinking how to resolve compatibility issues.
I think Konqueror was released before Plasma. So was XFCE. And not everyone uses Plasma. Konqueror seem nice, but I don’t want to change my whole environment for just one program. That’s the kinda thing I would expect from proprietery printer firmwares.
Nautilus and Epiphany are also not designed for XFCE, they are both from GNOME. But they are still compatible. Konqueror is not. I mentioned this already. I am aware KDE created Konqueror so they don’t have to make it compatible. But I posted it here in case someone might know what to do about it.
Gnome is far more closely related to XFCE and Cinnamon than it is to KDE. Thunar, Nautilus, and Nemo will all work in Gnome, XFCE, and Cinnamon. They may have issues on KDE. And Konqueror would probably not work well or properly on Gnome, XFCE, or Cinnamon.
Again… The simple fact remains that Konqueror is not designed for XFCE. it is, and was, designed specifically for KDE. I wouldn’t expect complete functionality.
Are you a developer of Konqueror? I know I am not. I am gonna ask for help. And hope someone there provides it. There’s no harm in asking. And for future, please try to share some constructive or helpful advice. There’s no need to argue with me. I was just asking for help.
Ran apt install qt6ct and got QT6 Settings in menu. Tried to make changes but it didn’t worked. Realised I had to changed QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME to qt6ct in environment variables. Did that and restarted. Now the icons are fixed. But when I changed the Palette to darker, it changed the icon text to white, but not the background. And the tab text is black but so is the background.
