Open Konsole, then right-click its icon in the task manager and choose “Pin To Task Manager”.

I use the Ctrl-Alt-T shortcut to bring up a new konsole.
I think that is a default settings in plasma.

id pin it if i could pin it over by my system tray not over by my start menu i dont need more icons there right now i have it as ctrl+alt

You could try this:

  • Right-click your panel, choose “Add or Manage Widgets”
  • In the search box, type “quicklaunch”. You should see a widget called “Quicklaunch”. Left click to add it to the panel. It probably appears at the end of the panel, but you can click and drag to move it where you want.
  • Click the “X” on the widgets display (if it’s still visible), then “Exit Edit Mode” to stop editing the panel.
  • Right-click on your new widget, choose “Add Launcher” and select Konsole from the application tree that comes up.

Now you have a button in the position of your choice that launches Konsole.

Why is this much better? Now you have the icon in the system tray instead of the task manager.
Task manager still has the same amount of icons, system tray now has one more. What is the difference?
System tray is not meant to start applications, therefore you have a task manager with which you can manage tasks, like starting them.
The system tray is meant for info about applications, about changing settings (like with network manager), sound level and choice of output when you have more than one.

As PG has proven, it seems to work, so be happy with it, but it is not the normal way to do this. But that is my opinion.

i did look into yakuake wasnt a bad option. the difference where i look for tools vs programs and some people have ocd like legit ocd. ill have to try that

Even nicer - if you open Konsole, with a context menu (right click) you can choose to pin it ONLY to Activities you want it to appear in.

This is a terrific suggestion. I have been using Yakuake on my daily driver system (Ubuntu Studio w/KDE Plasma 5.27.12) since I switched from Windows 10. Also on my KDE Neon test/media server laptop since I installed Neon.

I had years of using Linux (RHEL or CentOS) in a professional setting, and relied heavily on discrete Konsole sessions, typically running on multiple desktops and/or activities. Using Yakuake cut my discrete Konsole session usage by probably 80%.

I added a quicklauncher widget to my panel. I have two rows in it with six icons total and the whole thing takes up a bit more than 1/2 inch of my panel. My terminal icon lives there.
