Hello!
I’ve been using KDE Plasma 6 for about a week and there’s one thing that has been bothering me a lot. To my knowledge, there is no way of ordering the icons displayed in the system tray. I also have no control over which icons end up in the “hidden icons” drop down menu, so it’s all up to my system to decide for me.
I don’t really see the reason why this isn’t a feature yet. Plasma has very robust customization options, but this feels like an unnecessary limitation.
Thanks for considering my idea.

True, you can’t place them in a specific order.
It’s in system tray settings:

nothing you can do about the order, unless you want to add each widget separately to the panel instead of using the system tray.
but you should be able to configure the system tray entries to either of these states
- always shown : just as it says, it will always be in the tray
- when relevant: only appears when active or in need of attention
- disabled: that feature is turned off and you will never see the icon\
- always hidden: puts the icon into the pull out menu(1)
(1)if none of your entries are hidden, then the pullout menu is also hidden saving you from another useless icon in the system tray
not totally useless tho because if you right click on the pullout menu, then you have easy access to the system tray configuration settings, where if you don’t have the pull out menu, then you have to go thru edit mode to get to them.

Thanks, I misunderstood what “Always hidden” meant and how it was different from “Disabled”.
I still think the ability to drag-and-drop these would be more intuitive, though.

Hi - just for reference, there’s an open feature request in the KDE Bugtracking System for the ability to reorder system tray icons: 384782 – Allow manually re-ordering tray icons
You can add yourself to the CC list in Bugzilla to get email notifications whenever new comments are added to that feature request, or when the status is changed. Making sure the “Add me to CC list” option is checked, then choosing “Save Changes”, will add you:

how many years has it been?
oh, 2017… this is not coming.
It will if someone has the time, ability and interest to get in and figure out how to implement it.
I don’t think that’s blind belief on my part, either - there have been 25 feature requests and 29 bugs for Plasma and Frameworks that were created in 2017 or before, and were fixed in 6.x. This past Friday, a bug that had been reported in 2013 had a fix merged to land in the upcoming Frameworks 6.13.
It will just require either the right person, or a company willing to sponsor the work

Personally I don’t miss that feature…
