Panel Task Bar Shortcut no longer Executes when clicked

I create a file containing ‘shutdown now’ on my desktop and it is executable. I drag it onto the panel / task bar. I click on it and my machine shuts down. Until now. It appears the latest set of updates to KDE/Ubuntu Linux break it. Any clues as to what happened and how to fix?

It’s available in the menu - click menu, click ⏻

Simpler - and less clutter - create a keyboard shortcut, like CtrlShiftF2

Thank you for a solution. The preference is a mouse click and doing it on the panel/task bar was a nice solution for my environment as I work with multiple virtual KDE machines at once. But keyboard/mouse button assignment may work. I am curious as to what happened with the latest updates to KDE Ubuntu 26.04 that broke this function. Reminds me of how Microsoft works.

Well, it depends on a lot of things but how did you write the script? Can you share the content of the script?
Have you tried using Compact ShutDown widget? I don’t know if it’s installed by default or if I installed it myself.
