Paypal Payment requests Phone and Address

Hi there,
for a lot of you this may not be of any interest, but: today I’ve had a popup that asked for a donation. Since I use this great desktop environment and a lot of the bundled software, I did so. When I’ve followed the link, I was brought to a PayPal payment page, where I needed to fill in a billing address and my phone number. This may not be a problem for a majority of the people - however, I really do not like to give any necessary personal data to anyone, especially to companies like PayPal. To keep my data private is the major reason I use a open source OS in the first place. The Address may be required for some legal reasons (can’t imagine since this is a donation nor a contract), the phone I am most certain is not.
If it is only little trouble, I would suggest to think about an additional payment provider that does not require to phone and address.
Also I wonder, what others of you think.

Hi - thanks very much for considering donating to the KDE community!

PayPal is the option presented first, but there are two other methods also presented through the Donorbox system:

Hopefully you can find an option there that works for your location and needs!

Unfortunately these options also request a lot of personal information.

I just sucked it up, and gave up the data, but I’ll be honest, I wasn’t OK with it.

Hi - were you able to take a look at some of the alternative methods given at: Other ways to Donate - KDE Community ? That page also has the link to the e.V. treasurer’s email if you’d want to discuss anything directly there as well.

Thanks mate. I did see those but the credit card was easy and since it’s KDE I wasn’t too stressed. I did consider that maybe paypal might be preferable for next time since I’d only need to give an email address, but apparently I was mistaken :smiley:

I did exactly that - phone, address and mail was required to donate.
