When the “log out” screen is up with sleep, restart, shut down, log out, pressing the physical power button does nothing.
It would be really great if commenced a shut down, that those of us with the power button action set to show the log out screen can still be able to easily shut down a PC without having to turn on the screen (particularly useful for livingroom PC setups).
So as to avoid accidental double-press stutters, it’d probably be best to include a 500ms dead-time or something, i.e. press power button once to bring up the “log out” screen, then you have to wait 500ms before pressing the power button again commences the shut down process (important if you pressed the power button once to bring up the “log out” screen but wanted to select something other than shut down, i.e. sleep)
hi, welcome.
this is the logout confirmation screen.
you can disable this screen in settings > desktop session
when disabled the action takes place with only a single use of either the power buttons on the menu or the physical power buttons on the machine depending on how it is configured in the power management settings.
Ah well, yes I am aware of this, I just meant like this seems to be an oversight in functionality that the physical power button does nothing on that screen, does it not? Like you might prefer this sort of log out screen with choices normally, but sometimes it’s preferable to be able to turn off the PC without needing to turn on the screen and/or access the mouse & keyboard.
I also found this bug entry for a similar thing but it seems to be talking about the actual lock screen instead which is a little different but kind of similar:
