[Plasma 6.1] Is it normal for plasmashell process to always use RAM>700MB

In Plasma 6.1, plasmashell process is always using RAM>700MB, is it normal ? Because in the previous version it was way less than the current value.

Generally on my machines (all with 16 GB RAM each) plasmashell tends to stay between 200-300 MiB. It can spike sometimes, especially if you use many widgets, but if it reaches 700+ MiB when you’re using vanilla Plasma usually it’s a memory leak somewhere that needs to be reported.

Anything above 1 GiB without extra widgets on the desktop or panel is definitely a memory leak in my experience.

I don’t like using those unsupported third party widgets. I have only one sticky note and color picker on panel, even the desktop/lock screen/SDDM I set their wallpapers to solid black color.

Might be worth checking if it’s one of the built-in widgets, then? I don’t have either the color picker or sticky note on either of my Plasma desktops, and my plasmashell RAM usage is 223 MB on one device and 283 MB on the other.

I found the culprit, it’s Klipper.

I use it as backup to hold many copied items (700 entries), and it seems enabling it will load all those saved entries into RAM.

Disabling it and restarting plasmashell decreases the RAM usage to <300MB

On my system plasmashell now clocks at 1.3GB. I use tons of widgets and also limitless (as much as possible) klipper.
