Plasma 6.3 is here... and it's Pixel Perfect!

One year on from Plasma 6.0, and this is what you can expect in your next update: massive steps in the support and configuration of drawing tablets, pixel perfect window placing and zoom, extended hardware monitoring, even more customization possibilities, and so much more.

I was just watching nick’s video about it, and saw that there are two exit options in system settings apply dialogue. this is probably a bug, here’s the link, 4:04 is the timestamp, but to save a click here is a screenshot as well: (imo the “x” should be axed)

Nice. Right on schedule. Congrats and thank you! Now, for the Fedora folks to add this to their distro. I wonder if Fedora 41 will get it or we’ll have to wait for 42 which is couple of months away.

Update: Plasma 6.3 will come to Fedora 40 and 41 apparently. So hopefully in couple of weeks.

So it’s already out for Fedora 41.

I upgraded a recent 6.2 neon install and now I can’t login. I’ve re-installed several times, did the upgrade again, same result, Oh, and don’t let the screen lock activate.

Plasma 6.3 only misbehaves on my Dell XPS-13 Plus, works fine on several other systems.

Cool, nice release! I have a piece of feedback for the announcement: It seems to be missing how to actually use some of these features. I might have missed it, but where, for example, does it say how to use/enable the KWin zoom?

If you open System Settings and search for the effect, it will take you to Desktop Effects and you can activate the effect (if it is not activated by default) and you can see and change the key/mouse combination to use it.

To answer your question, the key combination to zoom in is Meta (“Windows” key) + +. So hold down the Meta and mush that + key.

To zoom out, hold down Meta and mush the - key.

Running KDE Neon here.
It’s now February 19 2025
Shouldn’t my distro have automatically upgraded my Plasma to 6.3?
I run updates daily - and it has not…

It’s uBlunder based so odds are NO.

I’ve just gotten the update to Plasma 6.3 on my Framework 13 AMD, and after login, no DE was visible. I had to hook up an external monitor and change my display color profile configuration from my custom ICC to “built in”. I can now reach my desktop, but the color rendition is unsuitable for photo work. Should I file a bug report? Several others are having the same issue. I’m on Aurora OS. Bazzitte users are reporting similar issues.

If there this has been reported in

https://bugs.kde.org

add yourself with a comment and you will receive updates regarding the resolution of problem (apart from underlining the seriousness of the issue).

If it has not been reported there, you should report it yourself.

My mistake:
Info Center header says KDE Neon 6.2
but below that, I do see that I am on 6.3

That’s not a good sign.
You must have some packages issues to end up in a mixed plasma version state.
That’s not supposed to happen.

But maybe it just neon label that is not up to date.

I think we are dealing with an ironic confusion being that the system is technically on KDE version 6.2 and the Plasma version number (6.3) are so close.
I guess the Plasma version change did not warrant the need to increment a KDE Neon version number change. :grimacing:
