Whenever I press the super key to open the app launcher and type the name of an application, it will take a small moment to update the search results. This is fine, but my twitchy stubborn muscle memory still thinks I’m using my old DE, whose search ran instantly, and I end up pressing enter to launch an unintended app that was just on the launcher. E.g., when trying to launch “KeePassXC”, I’ll type “K” in, the search will put Kate on top, then I’ll finish typing, the search doesn’t update, and I accidentally press enter on Kate instead of KeePassXC. Is this delay a toggle-able option, is it hard-coded, or is my computer just slow?
The search is a bit slow, as it also goes through a lot of keywords (so that “Word” finds LibreOffice Writer), and does some fuzzy matching so that it’ll find things even if you skipped a letter or swapped some around. The delay that exists now is simply the time it takes for the search results to come in and be processed.
There’s some ideas about making the “just type and hit enter” method work better, but there’s no toggle that you can set.
You may find that Krunner directly is a tad faster, so try that out - by default it’s bound to alt+space, but if it works better for you, you can bind it directly to Meta yourself - there’s quite a few people who do this.
