On my screen lock and plasma media widget, I often see a media playing in Firefox from websites which include some videos. But I don’t want these to be detected as legit media; I did not start these manually. These video have started in the background or in a list of many videos.
Suggestion
If I could exclude some domain names, it would be easy for me to configure the few websites which cause the misbehaving.
Thanks! This should be the solution… Unfortunately, some websites resist this setting and manage to start videos even with autoplay blocked. I even have an extension (Disable HTML5 Autoplay) to block further which give positive results; but medias still do play for a very short duration.
You’d need to look it up, but I believe there are settings in FF’s about:config that require a click for videos to play, all videos. media.autoplay.blocking_policy…something, for example.
Okay! I found documentation at support.mozilla.org under /en-US/kb/block-autoplay. I will try this. BRB.

It does not work. Setting it to “block audio and video” is not enough to prevent pinterest.com from doing autoplay. I think they use javascript events to start video while the user scrolls, making the setting not applicable.
Me think you didn’t look good enough. You need to look at different settings. A random search got me to https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=28132213 I’m not saying this is THE solution but autoplay embedded videos requires more than just one setting.
