Hello,
yesterday I installed the following plasmoid:
After installing it and adding the plasmoid to the tray bar, Plasma/Kwin started crashing constantly.
At every reboot I get
Normal boot until password entry
Total black screen for 3-4 seconds
The Desktop reappears for few seconds
Total black screen
The Desktop reappears for few seconds
Total black screen
The Desktop reappears for few seconds
Total black screen forever
So it seems that Plasma/Kwin tries to restart 3 times then it dies forever.
I fixed the problem opening a terminal window (CTRL+F3) and deleting the plasmoid folder
Thank you very much for your test. So it seems a Kubuntu bug or something related to my system… I’ll try to install that plasmoid again and save the journalctl if this happens again.
Is there any other useful logs besides journalctl?
Hi - the KDE Store page for that particular widget seems to indicate many folks are having significant crashing issues with it installed on more recent versions of Plasma.
Hi Thanks for the suggestion, the standard web browser also crashes Plasma, but not quite in the same way, on adding the web browser widget, plasma crashes and then recovers itself, but on chatai, plasma tries to rcover 3 times and crashes out requiring a back-up of ./.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc and a plasma restart to recover it - but perhaps I’ll google the web browser widget problem to see if a fix to that will fix chatai as well.
It seems the issue with all webbrowser based plasmoids. Even with the stock webbrowser plasmoid that comes with KDE Plasma.
For me it also started after the upgrade to 24.04 on KDE Neon (or maybe the update to Plasma 6.2, I’m not sure).
BTW the issue doesn’t exist on Fedora.
If you have an up-to-date Plasma installation and notice unique messages or related symptoms on your device that aren’t already covered in that bug report’s comments, adding them there could be helpful for folks diagnosing and eventually fixing the issue
