Plasma / KWin customization questions

Hello!

I have a few questions I can’t seem to figure out! I am new-again to Linux and my first time using KDE, so a bit of a newbie 'round here.

Context:
I am on Arch with KDE Plasma 6.0.3 (Wayland), nvidia dGPU proprietary drivers, and using the Polonium script (Polonium | Home) for window tiling under KWin on an Asus G14 laptop. I often use external monitor as well.

Questions:

  1. Is there a setting to change only the task bar (panel) color (i.e. independent of global theme)?
  2. Is there a setting to add a border/highlight to the currently active / focused window (i.e. leaving inactive windows without border)
  3. (I know there was a 3rd one but I’ve paced around for 20 minutes and can’t for the life of me recall what it was supposed to be…)

Any advice or direction would be appreciated!

For that you can try my widget Panel Colorizer it can do that and much more. If it seems like an overkill you can try Breeze Alpha Black instead

Hey, that’s awesome! Nice work on that. I will definitely give it a try.

I spent quite a bit of time today playing around with the various Plasma theme options and Polonium settings. I think, in the end, the outcome I desire (rounded corners with no title bar button and a highlight around the active window) is not possible through the settings alone. Polonium allows for toggling borders for all / none / active and that does work as you might expect – however, in turning on borders it also turns on title bar buttons so I think it would be necessary to have a “window decoration” theme which does not include title bar buttons? Turning off the borders also removes any rounding of corners it seems.

I could not find an option to remove title bar buttons from a window decoration, so perhaps it is only possible through some other customization or KWin script, so I will look into those.

For now, I’ve settled on a compromise of having inactive windows translucent, so at least it is apparent which window is active through those means.

I’ll update again if I make any new discoveries!

KDE-Rounded-Corners can do these two even without decorations

This looks awesome, too! I will give it a try. If it is using shaders, will that keep my laptop’s dedicated GPU (RTX 4050) active all the time, or will it work fine on the integrated GPU (AMD ATI Radeon 680M)?

*Edit: Beautiful! Exactly what I was hoping for. Thank you! I hope this makes it in to the KWin project.
