Plasma Login Manager hopping between displays

Hi,

I think this is a bug, but I wanted to check here first before I file anything. I’m on CachyOS, having recently switched to Plasma Login Manager.

When I boot, the login screen opens on my primary display, but as soon as I begin typing my password, the field immediately jumps to the secondar monitor. When I move my mouse, it jumps back to the primary monitor, I continue typing, and it jumps to the secondary monitor again. Rinse and repeat. The login does work, but this is obviously quite jarring – I just want the password field on my primary monitor. I’ve tried clicking “Apply Plasma Settings…” in the Login Screen section of KDE settings, but it has made no difference.

Am I overlooking something or should I submit a bug?

It does look like a bug. To helps developers out, please report it to

Thanks!

Thank you. I have reported it here: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=515429

Hey there,
just wanted to inform you, I had the same problem.

In my case I could fix it by going to settings → login → apply plasma settings (maybe the labels are not correct, my os native language is german).

Before applying this setting my primary and secondary monitor were not recognized correctly on the login screen and i often had a black screen after log-in in that could only be fixed by powering the display down and up again.
All fixed with this simple click.

Hope that helps anyone.

As mentioned above, I already tried that and it did not fix my issue.

That said, with a recent update, the issue seems to be resolved now. The manager stays on my primary monitor. A weird new quirk is that the secondary monitor is to the right instead of to the left of my primary monitor (as set in the display settings in KDE), but only on the login – the desktop itself works as intended.

This is what I meant with the swapped screens on login. But unfortunately for you, this was also fixed with the apply plasma settings button in my case. Weird behavior.
