Have had this problem off and on for a while.
Plasma just completely refuses to acknowledge the Windows/Meta button on my keyboard. Normally could hit hat and pop the taskbar up, or use [Meta+E] for Dolphin to open. But nothing. It won’t acknowledge it in the settings when trying to set up a new Shortcut with it.
Very odd. IDK why.
Thoughts?
And it’s a multi-boot device, so YES, the button works in Windows or other linux distros. It’s not the mechanical button.
hi, welcome.
you weren’t supposed to need to do this anymore, but you used to need to assign a shortcut to the app launcher/menu in shortcuts … something like Meta+F1
and then the meta key alone would work.
Bonjour,
Pensez à bien vérifier la configuration du clavier et peut- être tester le clavier.
It’s not the mechanical button. That works fine in other operating systems.
I’m asking about the configuration possibility here.
Thx.
you have meta set for the application Launcher
are you using the Launcher or are you using the Menu
they are separate and each needs their own shortcut
search the shortcuts with “activate application” to see both listed.
Can someone please give a solution to this. Still the same issue. Meta (Windows) key does NOTHING. It is not acknowledged at all at any point, or in any window (or shortcuts assigning) in Fedora. The key works in other OS’s (the mechanical key is fine).
if you go to settings > input devices > keyboard, what does the keyboard model setting say? and does that match with your physical device?
also go into Advanced and uncheck the configure keyboard options box, and apply.
now go into settings > shortcuts and type meta+ into the search box, you should see a long list of items controlled by the meta key modifier.
are you saying NONE of those things work on your install?
meta+t should bring up the custom tile editor, for instance.
meta+l should lock the screen…etc.
You are acting as if this isn’t a known issue for at least 7 years now… All over various internet sites.
To answer your questions:
“Generic | Generic 105-key PC”
I mean, I guess so. It’s the built-in keyboard on the laptop. Am I supposed to go through various ones attempting success?
Nothing shows, until i click on one of the categories. Then there are various pre-assigned hotkeys using “Meta+___” Here is the drill-down for the “Plasma Workspace”
Correct: and for the umtheenth time, NOTHING using the Meta key works.
Agreed: it “should”… and for the umtheenth time, NOTHING using the Meta key works.
Agreed: it “should”… and for the umtheenth f’n time, NOTHING using the Meta key works.
NOTE: Alt+F1 does in fact open the “Application Launcher” (commonly known as the “Start” menu).
ALSO NOTE: If I plug in an external USB keyboard, the Meta key works from it. Without changing the “Generic | Generic 105-key PC” in the Keyboard menu.
So it seems that this OS (Fedora) is not acknowledging the Meta key. As I SAID.
So how many more times do I have to say the same thing here?
CHANGE: I just counted the keys on my laptop and it’s 85. So I changed the Setting to the “Generic 86-key PC” so it’s at least closer. I’ll try rebooting, etc.
So the laptop has bricked. Won’t even boot into the BIOS. Just sits and lights up the keyboard on and off for a few minutes at a time. Getting hotter.
Apparently some sort of hardware issue that started small (one key), and now requires me shopping for a replacement (damn it).
Wish me luck getting the nvme to boot in something else to get any data.
sorry for the wasted time here.
BTW - It appears to be a BIOS failure because it exhibits all the symptoms on this page:
Intel® NUC 9 Extreme Laptop Kit - LAPQC71B BIOS Bricked - #16 by ristretto - BIOS Modding Guides and Problems - Win-Raid Forum
If anyone knows how to recover those, I might not have to buy a new laptop. (No I was not attempting to mod MY machine, at least not yet…)
