Plasma5 (Kubuntu 24.04) doesn't switch off the screen

I have defined these settings:

(that appear coherent with the contents of ~/.config/powermanagementprofilesrc).

Yes the screen is never turned off.

I have checked:

  • System set to presentation mode (doesn’t appear to be, for the display config popup)
  • Multimedia apps playing or even running
  • Firefox/Chrome tabs playing sound/video
  • Downloads in progress

In journalctl at about the time I would expect something to happen, I see this line:

org_kde_powerdevil[2710]: org.kde.powerdevil: Unsatisfied policies, the action has been aborted

These lines are very often followed by:

dbus-daemon[1656]: [system] Activating service name='org.kde.powerdevil.backlighthelper' requested by ':1.62' (uid=1000 pid=2710 comm="/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libexec/org_kde_powerdev" label="unconfined") (using servicehelper)
dbus-daemon[1656]: [system] Successfully activated service 'org.kde.powerdevil.backlighthelper'

What/where else can I check?

I’m assuming you run Plasma X11 and not Wayland?

Did you try running xset dpms force off and see if your screen can actually switch off?

Did you try running xset dpms force off

I have it in a script that is ran when I lock and it works very well on the two screens (laptop + auxiliary on HDMI)
