Since Kdenlive is an open-source program, it would be amazing if we could start developing custom plugins, just like the ones available for OBS Studio.
Imagine how much the editing experience could improve: new effects, additional tools, and advanced features to help everyone get the most out of this editor.
This could become an exciting project for our community and a great way to contribute to the growth of a software many of us use every day.
What do you think? This could be our first open-source project together!
I think maybe we should start a betting pool on how many (more) times people will let their imagination run wild without doing any research on how many times a year someone starts exactly this thread using almost exactly these same words?
Imagine how much work we could fund if we had a few dollars for every time this has been rehashed without any actual contribution occurring as a result of it at all?
Your enthusiasm is lovely, but if you have something in mind you’d like to see improved, you might want to start by imagining something concrete that you’d like to actually contribute, and then we can talk in real terms about the actually practical ways you might make that happen.
There is no magic “Just Add Plugins”, and there are no magic elves just waiting in the wings to do Amazing Things but refusing to do any of them until we do that. No matter how much some people keep imagining them. Sorry.
I’m not sure if you’re aware, but there’s a whole library of user-generated presets, templates, wipes, etc. that can be found in the KDE Store: Kdenlive - KDE Store
Kdenlive also comes with a wide range of plugins like motion tracking, auto-generated subtitles and subtitle translation, background separation, etc. Additionally, community members make third-party effects and utilities for users here and there, but they are in different corners of the Internet – you just have to look.
Are you looking for a particular effect / tool / feature? It’s possible that it already exists.
