Re-read configuration after setting change

I have been trying to change a setting using the following command:

kwriteconfig5 --file kxkbrc --group Layout --key Options "lv3:ralt_alt"

The change shows in the settings program, but takes no effect. Is there a way to reload the configuration, so the change will take effect without the need to log out and in again?

dbus-send --session --type=signal --reply-timeout=100 --dest=org.kde.keyboard /Layouts org.kde.keyboard.reloadConfig
